Obama Addresses Nation On Afghanistan

As I am sure all of you know, Pres. Obama addressed the nation this past Tuesday (Dec. 1, 2009) from the United States Military Academy at West Point, talking directly to the cadets there and Americans at home. His goals were to explain and inform the nation on his reasons for ordering an immediate increase of 30,000 troops in Afghanistan. Pres. Obama made clear that the troops would be home by 2011, at which point the military would decide what to do next. The estimated cost is going to be around $40 billion for this surge. President Obama said that the goals in Afghanistan were going to be to defeat al Qaeda, stabilize Pakistan, and break the Taliban's momentum in Afghanistan.
