Bipartisan Healthcare Summit

Click To Increase Text Size: Normal Big Bigger

The bipartisan health care meeting on February 25th offered something you rarely see in Washington: an open, honest, productive discussion between the political parties. Leaders from across the political spectrum gathered at Blair House to exchange thoughts about an issue that touches all of us: rising health costs and unfair insurance company practices.  Throughout the day, both sides found areas of agreement on important issues like: Preventing waste and fraud in Medicare and Medicaid; Addressing medical malpractice reform; Reforming the insurance market; And giving individuals more choices in coverage, and giving small businesses the opportunity to pool coverage for their employees.

But there were also important areas of disagreement.  The President believes we should set some common sense rules of the road to protect American families and small businesses from insurance company abuses, and he believes that a problem this big cannot be addressed incrementally. And while insuring 30 million people is going to cost money, it’s important to remember that most of this money is going to tax credits that will reduce premiums and help people get better coverage.  And while the President appreciated the participation and input of everyone involved, he doesn’t think we can just scrap a year’s worth of work and start over. The millions of Americans that are suffering can’t afford another year-long debate. There’s too much at stake.

A Merciful God Has Seen Fit to Keep Dick Cheney Healthy for Us All

Click To Increase Text Size: Normal Big Bigger

Former Vice President Dick Cheney — who has previously suffered somewhere between three and nineteen heart attacks — was hospitalized with chest pains yesterday.
Whoa whoa whoa whoa! Don't panic. He appears to be in good condition
Former Vice President Dick Cheney was "feeling good" a day after being hospitalized with chest pains, a source who spoke to Cheney said Tuesday…
Cheney's doctors were evaluating his situation, a family source said. Another source said Cheney, 69, is up and in touch with his family and friends.
Dr. Sanjay Gupta, CNN's chief medical correspondent, called Cheney's mobility "a good sign."
It's such a load off  my mind to know that Vice President Cheney is "feeling good." It truly is "a good sign."
With a little luck, he'll be up and back to hard-core petitioning for medieval torture practices by the end of the month. God willing.

Wow, time for a reality check. I came across a website, usdebtclock.org, which shows over 60 types of US debt. Included in these counts are debt per citizen, earmarks, interest on debt, US trade deficit, and of course total debt, as well as much more.

Biden: The Bermuda Triangle of Politicians

Click To Increase Text Size: Normal Big Bigger

There are few constants in this world. There's Archimedes' constant, Hubble's constant, Planck's constant, and probably most constantly constant of all, Biden's constant: Where Joe Biden goes, stuff goes down in all the wrong ways:

A week ago, while in Vancouver enjoying the Olympics, Biden's motorcade was involved in a chain reaction crash. The incident began when a van carrying two Olympic athletes (figure-skater Peggy Fleming and the former bobsled champion Vonetta Flowers) in the vice presidents motorcade plowed into another vehicle preceding it in the motorcade. That vehicle then crashed into a third motorcade vehicle. The van that started the incident was so badly damaged that it could not be driven away from the accident scene.

The two athletes were treated at a local hospital and released, but as you'll recall this is not the first time Biden's motorcade has been involved in an accident. (Memo to the U.S. Speedskating heroes: I don't care if he's the vice president, if he offers you a ride just tell him you'll walk. Or skate.)

And that was just last week! This week, however, Biden is involved in a more threatening incident...
A man who authorities said apparently suffers from mental illness managed to breach security during the Olympics opening ceremony…
Hold on, hold on, hold on! I know what you're thinking. That's not the part about Joe Biden. The part about Joe Biden is coming up…
A man who authorities said apparently suffers from mental illness managed to breach security during the Olympics opening ceremony and get close to U.S. Vice President Joe Biden, Canadian officials said Wednesday. Police apprehended him about 12 rows away from Biden's section, Lapointe said. He briefly escaped police custody, running into a nearby hallway, but was quickly recaptured, Royal Canadian Mounted Police Sgt. Gregory Gomez del Prado said.
You see? Joe Biden doesn't even need to be personally involved, and stuff get's messed up. He's like a high voltage magnet and the whole world is a computer bank.
The man did not have any weapons on him and did not appear to have criminal intentions, Lapointe said. The man likely suffers from mental illness and won't face any criminal charges, Lapointe added.
Great, as long as the man won't face criminal charges I feel much more reassured...

Stay tuned for next weeks episode of  "Joe Biden: The Bermuda Triangle of Politicians"!

Operation New Dawn

Click To Increase Text Size: Normal Big Bigger

President Obama has promised that when we wake up on September 1, the Iraq war (aka Operation Iraqi Freedom) will be over. But that leaves us without a theme, a brand, if you will, for all the miscellenous quagmires we'll still be mopping up in Iraq.

At last, here's an Iraq-related issue with a very simple fix…

As of Sept. 1, Operation Iraqi Freedom becomes Operation New Dawn. Defense Secretary Robert Gates said in a memo Wednesday that the name change — which is to immediately follow the scheduled withdrawal of U.S. combat troops from Iraq — will send a strong signal that American forces have a new mission.

Sure! Or, it'll remind Iraqis of the time Fallujah turned into a morass of rubble and refugees.

Either way, it's pretty catchy.

Let's Flee To Canada!!

Click To Increase Text Size: Normal Big Bigger

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton could not escape U.S. politics during her trip to Saudi Arabia. Early this morning during a town hall meeting with students at Dar Al Hekma College, a student asked Clinton if she thinks Sarah Palin will be president and whether Hillary would move to Canada if Palin were elected. The audience laughed -- so did Clinton -- before she said, "Well, the short answer is no. I will not be immigrating. I will be visiting as often as I can." She added, "Our political seasons never end" and that she will continue to support President Obama. She said she is "very well-acquainted" with running for president.

Go Clinton!

Vancouver 2010 Opening Ceremony Recap

Click To Increase Text Size: Normal Big Bigger

Wow, the opening ceremony for the 2010 winter Olympics was beautiful. The use of technology in the show was very advanced, and the idea of making the audience wear white ponchos in order to utilize them as "projector screens" was ingenious as well. I've tried to find a complete video of it online, but NBC is retaining usage rights and making it near impossible to show anywhere else. So, if you missed the show on TV, you can watch it on the NBC website by using the links below. NBC is splitting the video into three parts, so click the links in the order that I post them below. After one video ends, come back to this article and click the next link. Have fun!

PART ONE - Opening Ceremony  <-- This is the opening scene
PART TWO - Opening Ceremony  <-- This scene introduces the athletes
PART THREE - Opening Ceremony <-- This is the torch lighting and cinematic scene (very interesting!)

Go Team USA!

Fox News Teabags Itself

Click To Increase Text Size: Normal Big Bigger

According to Fox News, the teabag movement is a "fruitless mix of racism and conspiracy theories".

Let me elaborate: Fox News recently ran an internet poll asking viewers what they thought the tea party movement was all about. The only problem was, they ran it on the internet. When on their TV channel they pick and choose what to show, but on the internet, anyone can say anything. Here is a picture of the poll:

I'm glad people like you are voting on this poll over at fox, otherwise our "socialist agenda" might be exposed!

Duncan Hunter Warns Against Overturning "Don't Ask If You're a Hermaphrodite, Don't Tell That You're a Hermaphrodite"

Click To Increase Text Size: Normal Big Bigger

Rep. Duncan Hunter — former Marine and failed 2008 presidential hopeful — has some very compelling reasons for not overturning DADT.
Like, for example, the inevitable infestation of trannies and hermaphrodites…
Rep. HUNTER: I think the folks who have been in the military that have been in these very close situations with each other, there has to be a special bond there. And I think that bond is broken if you open up the military to transgenders, to hermaphrodites, to gays and lesbians.
NPR: Transgenders and hermaphrodites?
Rep. HUNTER: Yeah, that's going to be part of this whole thing. Its not just gays and lesbians. Its a whole gay, lesbian, transgender, bisexual community. If you're going to let anybody no matter what preference – what sexual preference they have that means the military is going to probably let everybody in. Its going to be like civilian life and I think that that would be detrimental for the military.
First of all, let me just state that I share Rep. Hunter's fear that the U.S. military might one day be forced to degrade itself to regular world levels of tolerance and human decency.
Secondly, I'd like to point out that the good congressperson has clearly missed his calling, and should be writing for the adult sex entertainment industry. He could seriously be a millionaire right now. (Rep. Hunter, please contact my Uncle Geno. He's waiting on your call and is ready to cut a check.)

Pres. Obama Holds an Open Discussion Across the Aisle

Click To Increase Text Size: Normal Big Bigger

Last Tuesday, the President did something unusual in American politics – initiated an open dialogue with members of the opposite party. Visiting the House Republican retreat, he took questions on anything they wanted to talk about. He heard them out, acknowledged where they were right, and gave a genuine explanation where he felt they were wrong.

It's worth noting that the President is looking to answer your questions as well.  That's why immediately after the State of the Union, the White House partnered with YouTube to give you an opportunity to ask questions of the President. Go and ask whatever you want, or just vote on other questions that your fellow citizens have submitted, and the President will answer some of those questions in a unique live event on Monday at WhiteHouse.gov.

To watch the hour and a half long video, click the triangle shaped play button below. Remember to rate how well President Obama did after the video!
